The Eye as a Window Into the Soul
What I'm Reading
If you want an average successful life, it doesn’t take much planning. Just stay out of trouble, go to school, and apply for jobs you might like. But if you want something extraordinary, you have two paths:
1. Become the best at one specific thing.
2. Become very good (top 25%) at two or more things.
The first strategy is difficult to the point of near impossibility. Few people will ever play in the NBA or make a platinum album. I don’t recommend anyone even try.
In this essay, Scott Adams suggests that the route to a happy and successful life is to become very good at two or more things.
If you're a good engineer and also a good marketer—you become Steve Jobs. If you're a good doctor but also a good runner—maybe you become a Team GB doctor. If you're a good doctor but a great writer—maybe you become Adam Kay.
There is one caveat however, Adams suggests that at least one of the skills should involve communication—writing, public speaking etc.
